Paradox: Rough Draft Completed

From: http://ift.tt/1pOZtgl

Lunch today was spent putting the final touches on a rough draft of Paradox (I opted to go with Paradox instead of The Paradox). I completed a brief preface to accompany the novelette and am nearly finished with the cover art (I do everything from start to finish for everything I publish). I had an idea for what I wanted it to look and am pleased with how it looks so far.

I’m undecided if I’ll pursue a print edition of this one. As I stated before, I plan to make the eBook free as soon as possible in as many venues as I can. Thus will include Smashwords, Nook, Kindle, iTunes, and Kobo. I’m still looking into Google Play and hope to provide it there also. It may not be available everywhere right away and it could take a day or two to get Amazon to pull the price down to zero.

I let the draft simmer in my head all weekend. I did a little content editing today during my lunch hour and hope to finish tomorrow. From there it’s just a matter of editing it for content, continuity, and grammar. I’m aiming for an early April release on this one, possibly before the end if the week. Being that it is so much shorter (currently about 12k words) than my first two books (92k and 97k, respectively) I don’t think meeting this deadline will be difficult to accomplish.

My next post will include some details about the novelette, the cover art, and another brief status update.

Paradox Update: One week in

From: http://ift.tt/1o5pnPs

http://ift.tt/1o5pp9X

I’ve been working on The Paradox for nearly a week and based on what I’m planning I can safely say I’m roughly 40% through my rough draft. It was never intended to be a long story. My two novels are both around 90k words. This will be something of a novelette or novella depending on how my final draft looks.

As I said before, eventually it will be listed free of charge, though my understanding is it takes a little time to get the price to actually drop to $0 in some of the online outlets.

I’ve been enjoying the rewrite so far. I hadn’t read through it in a few years and didn’t realize how strikingly obvious the correlations were. I’m also planning to actually write a foreword/afterword to accompany it for those interested. I just haven’t decided where it belongs yet.

My Newest Project: The Paradox

From: http://ift.tt/1hmYa1A

http://ift.tt/1hmYa1C

Good news and bad news:

The good news is I’ve begun writing my next work of fiction. The bad news is although it is related to my first two novels, it is not technically the third in the series.

I need a break from the third installment of Fate’s Haven. Not because I’m not enjoying the story but because until I work out a few details I believe I’ll be doing the story a disservice. Instead, I’m working on something I’m pretty excited about.

While writing The Enemy Within, I introduced an idea known as the Void. I won’t go into any major details because I don’t want to spoil the story. Suffice it to say the Void was a concept that grew with the story, branching out enough that it struck a particular chord that has been in my mind for more than a decade.

As I’ve stated on this blog in early posts, I began writing a long time ago. My first real project that I felt was suitable for an audience was a short story (roughly 20k words) called Paradox. I thought it was decent and always planned to rewrite it, fix a few issues with the plot, finish writing the follow-up I began, and release them as a single story. But as I neared the end of The Enemy Within, it became apparent there was a major link between it and my old short story. Both included the Void in one form or another. The only difference was what I chose to call it.

I’m rewriting Paradox, looking at it through the eyes of The Enemy Within and connecting them together. If you’ve read it, you may have an idea about what I’m referring to. If you haven’t, you won’t be lost. As I said before, this isn’t technically the third in the series. It won’t affect the third installment at all.

The best part if this is I’m not planning to charge for this one. I’m new to all this and my sales couldn’t get much worse than an average of 0.8 per month. I need something to help spread my name and I think something shorter might be the best way to help boost a loyal readership.

I’m only a few thousand words in and have only begun writing. It will take me some time to complete the project. But once it’s finished, all digital editions will be free. I’m debating about making print copies. Those just don’t sell well but I like having them for myself.

I’ll post updates from time to time to let you all know where the project stands. I know there are readers out there who enjoy watching the entire process unfold.

Until then, thanks for your support.

Update: Amazon Breakthrough Novelist Award

From: http://ift.tt/1j172kt

http://ift.tt/1gMtxT4

Today the second round entrants were announced. Sadly, my submission was cut. I knew going in the competition was going to be rough. I had hoped to make it far enough to get the novel reviewed to help with my marketing.

Congrats to all who made it through. Maybe I’ll try again next year.

First review is in!

From: http://ift.tt/1fDvVu7

Not four days after The Enemy Within was released for purchase, I’ve seen my first customer review. To be completely honest, I wasn’t expecting anything back so soon. Fate’s Haven went months at a time without a single review. There are times when knowing I’ve given away over a thousand copies of Fate’s Haven is discouraging considering the number of reviews is 6 (at the time of this writing) but today isn’t one of those days! Thank you to the kind soul who took the time to write such a glowing review!

Snowed in

Two posts in a single day! I think that’s a record!

Here, in Oklahoma, we’ve been hit with another round of winter weather. This time wasn’t as bad as the last but it’s still just damn cold. I opted this morning to drive to my office for the day’s work and quickly regretted it upon my arrival.

Tonight was what I’ve dubbed “Guy’s Night In”. My three-year-old and I spent the evening indoors while my wife went to have dinner with a friend. His choice for the evening entertainment? Lego Marvel Super Heroes.

I won’t go into a long-winded rant about a video game. But if you’re a parent looking for something to hold your kid’s attention span for a fairly decent amount of time without spending a tremendous amount of money or exposing them to a bunch of adult oriented content, this game is a must. My toddler and I enjoy going into the city area and having a good time. Plus it’s fun to listen to him talk about the things I read about in comics as as kid.
